Pakohe Turns 10!

A decade of learning, growth and new beginnings was celebrated as Pakohe Alternative Education marked its 10th anniversary, recognising the young people, whānau and community who have been part of its journey.

For 10 years, Pakohe Alternative Education has been supporting rangatahi in Whanganui to reconnect with learning, build confidence and discover new possibilities for their future.

The milestone was marked with a special celebration, bringing people together to reflect on Pakohe’s journey and recognise the impact of a programme built around supporting young people to find their own path.

As part of YMCA Central Inc, Pakohe provides an alternative learning environment for young people who may not have found success in mainstream education. The programme focuses on more than academic learning, helping rangatahi develop life skills, strengthen relationships and build the confidence to take their next steps.

Every young person’s journey is different, and having the right support, encouragement and environment can make a real difference. Pakohe’s approach recognises the potential in every learner and works alongside them to create opportunities for positive change.

The 10-year milestone is an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of the staff, the support of whānau and community partners, and, most importantly, the rangatahi who have been at the heart of Pakohe throughout its history.

As Pakohe looks ahead to the next chapter, its commitment remains the same: creating opportunities for young people to reconnect with education, realise their strengths and build a positive future.

Ten years on, Pakohe continues to demonstrate that with the right support, every young person has the potential to learn, grow and thrive.
